CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois head volleyball coach Lori Bennett has announced that Madison Barr (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll) and Hannah Deterding (White Heath, Ill./Monticello) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Panther volleyball squad next season.

Barr is a three-year varsity letter-winner and an honor student. She earned first team All-District and JOVC All-Tournament honors this past fall. The six-foot outside/middle-hitter will most likely see action in both the middle and outside attack modes in a Panther uniform.

“Madison has the athleticism and strength to excel within our offensive and defensive systems,” said Bennett. “She’s a very competitive player that will make an immediate impact offensively.”

A multi-sport athlete at Monticello HS, Deterding’s excellent setting skills will add to the Panther offensive schemes next year. She won numerous awards this past fall as her varsity squad finished 27-2, the school’s best record in school history and captured the runner-up trophy in the Okaw Valley, while earning the Regional title. She was named First Team All-Area by the Champaign News-Gazette, following two previous honorable mentions from the same publication. She was twice named First Team All-Okaw Valley Conference and earned all-tournament team kudos at the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Tournament.

“Hannah is an excellent volleyball player with an outstanding understanding of the game,” Bennett said. “She knows how to run an efficient offense and make the players around her better, plus she’s a great competitor that will compete for time at the setting spot immediately.”

“Both Madison and Hannah are both players that have goals in line with our program's,” Bennett added. “They will help take this program to the next level and we are very excited to have them join us in 2008.”
