INDIANAPOLIS -- Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming finished day two of the Summit League Championships on Friday, with the men maintaining their third place standing, while the women, unfortunately, dropped two spots to sixth place, with just one more day of races yet to come.
Just like on the first day of the meet, several more EIU school records went by the wayside as the day two docket included prelims and finals in the 200-Medley Relay, 400-IM, 100-Fly, 200-Free, 100-Breast, 100-Back and 800-Free Relay, with all events taking place at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
Several individuals and relays finished in the top three for the Panthers, including the foursome of freshman
Colin McGill, sophomore Matt O'Hagan, junior
Cody Showers, and newcomer
John Wilson touching the wall for second place in the 200-Medley Relay. Their time of 1:32.30 shattered the previous school mark of 1:34.05.
Meanwhile, sophomore
Tyler Crittenden, freshman
Kelli Dicanio, seniors
Kellie Logterman and
Lauren Zillmer teamed up to take third in the 200-Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.60, which also set a new record.
Other new EIU records came from
Kellie Logterman, who broke her own previous top Panther time in the 100-Fly not just once, but twice, first in the prelims and then again in the final via 57.94.
And just like Logterman, Matt O'Hagan also shattered his own school-record time in the 100-Breast, as his 57.37 prelim beat his previous best while he would eventually capture second place in the final, where he nearly set another school record, again.
Sophomore
Tyler Crittenden would add another school record mark, this time in her 100-Back final, as her 58.03 finish came about after she had previously topped the EIU record in her preliminary swim.
Yet one final school mark fell as the team of Zillmer, senior
Laura Nilsen, junior
Megan Eshleman and freshman
Hailey Foss combined with a time of 7:48.30 in the 800-Free Relay, beating the previous high of 7:52.80 taking third..
The EIU men's 800-Free unit came up just shy of setting a new mark of their own in the same race, but were still able to capture second place as freshman
Ken Tiltges, junior
Tim Mathieu, sophomore
Rich Waszak, and freshman
Tyler Hsieh finished with a time of 6:53.96.
Besides the Panthers, who are competing as an associate member of the Summit league, other teams competing include Centenary, IUPUI, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Western Illinois, with perennial favorite Oakland pulling ahead of the pack on both the men's and women's team standings. Even though the Panther women fell to sixth place on day two, they are just two team points behind fifth place Western Illinois.
The final day of the league meet commences on Saturday.
