February Recruit Announcement
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Head coach Summer Perala has added
Caitlin Greene (Freeport/Freeport) to her first Eastern Illinois women's soccer recruiting class, giving the Panthers nine new players for the upcoming 2010 season.
Greene is a four-year varsity starter at Freeport High, earning her team's defensive player of the year honors in 2007 and 2008. As her senior season kicks off this spring, she has been a three-time All-Northern Illinois 9 Conference honoree.
“Caitlin is an athletic, multifaceted player who we originally recruited as a defender,” Perala said. “However, she definitely has the ability to play a variety of roles on the field. Her high work ethic and intensely competitive personality will raise the level of play among those around her. Caitlin has a great future here within the program.”
In February, Perala announced that eight incoming freshmen would also be joining the program in the fall:
Cassidi Dietz (Millstadt/Belleville West),
Lauren Hoppensteadt (Oswego/Oswego East),
Nicole Hutchinson (San Antonio, Texas/Marshall),
Brittany O'Dell (Charleston/Charleston),
Samantha Rall (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista),
Meg Rogers (Bloomington/Normal Community),
Brenna Vogel (Naperville/Neuqua Valley) and
Jenna Wampler (Bloomington/U-High).
Greene is serving as a team co-captain this season for coach Nick Namio. She was Freeport's midfielder of the year as a junior and earned all-sectional honors in 2008 and 2009. She also played club for the Rockford Dactyls and Freeport Fire.
Greene played volleyball and basketball at Freeport High as well, earning all-conference honors in both sports. She was a four-year starting Libero for the volleyball team and a three-member of the varsity basketball squad.
Greene is a four-year honor roll student and an Illinois State Scholar that has served as student council president and National Honor Society treasurer. She is also a member of PRIDE and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Eastern is currently in the midst of its spring season and opens its annual preseason training camp in August.
