CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men's and women's tennis squads will continue road Ohio Valley Conference action this coming weekend, as both units head to perennial power Jacksonville State on Saturday (April 6), while the Panther men will continue on to Tennessee Tech on Sunday (April 7).
First serves are scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
The Panther men and women currently sport 7-6 and 10-3 overall marks, with the EIU women owning an impressive 5-1 league record as compared to a 2-3 mark for the guys in the OVC.
Prior to the weekend, the JSU men and women are 7-11/3-2 and 9-10/4-2, respectively. The Golden Eagles of TTU, meanwhile, sit at 5-9 overall and a perfect 5-0 in their league slate.
Reigning OVC 'Female Athlete of the Week'
Merritt Whitley owns a 9-3 overall mark, which includes a 6-2 record at the No. 3 spot. She's riding a four-match win streak and is 8-2 overall in No. 1 duos. In league-action, the senior is nearly perfect at 5-1 in singles and 3-0 when teamed with junior
Janelle Prisner in duo play.
Freshman
Alex Curtis is a perfect 3-0 in individual action, while sophomore
Sephora Boulbahaiem is 9-4 on the year.
For the guys, junior
Kevin Bauman is enjoying his own five-match win streak while owning a 7-4 singles mark, including a 3-0 OVC record.. He's also 5-2 on the year when playing alongside newcomer
Robert Skolik in duo action.
Following this weekend action, the Panthers will return to Charleston as the EIU women will first host UT Martin on Tues., April 9 at 2:15 p.m. The match was originally scheduled to take place on the road last March but weather issues forced the date and location change.
Then both teams will prepare for a pair of home finales versus Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State the following Sat., April 13 and Sun., April 14, respectively. Women's action will get underway at 10 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. start for the guys.
