2009: Spurgin played in seven games… saw action in two Valley contests… assisted on Jeff Kupiec’s game-winner against Asbury… also recorded a goal and an assist during the exhibition season, scoring the game-winner against Saint Xavier and setting up Jerry Maddi’s game-winner against Butler… logged a season-high 39 against Asbury.
HIGH SCHOOL: Spurgin was a three-year letter-winner for coach Ryan Estabrook… named All-State by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association as a senior… three-time All-Western Sun Conference honoree… also a three-time All-Area selection by the Daily Herald, Kane County Chronicle and Aurora Beacon News… senior year team captain… helped lead GHS to three consecutive Western Sun titles, going undefeated in conference play all three years… GHS was a three-time regional champ that won it sectional in 2007 and was runner-up a year later… also played for the Strikers Fox Valley club team and the Illinois ’91 Olympic Development Program.
PERSONAL: No. 1 sports highlight was finishing in third place at the Olympic Development Program national tournament… his parents have been a major influence on his sports career because “they have always supported me”… most admires Kevin Ward because “he was my first club coach and he taught me everything I know and made me the player I am today”… son of Bruce Dienst and Kristie Spurgin-Dienst… MAJOR: Finance.
