Eastern Illinois converted sixteen Southeast Missouri turnovers into 24 points as the Panthers moved back over the .500 mark for the season with a 75-49 win over the Redhawks on Saturday night at the Show-Me Center.  EIU improved to 12-11 overall, 6-7 in the OVC.

The Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s indoor track and field team had three top ten finishes at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational this weekend in South Bend, Ind. Darren Patterson, Queenie Abeboyejo and Chandra Golden finished near the top for the Panthers in the talented field at Notre Dame.

Competing in the final dual meet of the season, the Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s swimming squads downed Saint Louis on Saturday afternoon by scores of 135-70 and 120-85, respectively. Prior to the win, the Panthers honored six seniors for their contribution to the EIU swimming program.

Both Eastern Illinois tennis squads lost on the road, as the Panthers endured the wintry weather to take on Saint Louis at the Sunset Tennis Center on Friday evening. The EIU men lost, 6-1, while the women dropped a tight 4-3 contest.

Athlete of the Week

Sydney Mitchell is the Student-Athlete of the Week after helping EIU extend its program-record win streak to 11 with victories at SIU Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri State. The freshman provided energy and offensive production off the bench, scoring in double figures in both games. She scored 11 points at SIUE and a career-high 12 points at SEMO. She finished the road trip 7-of-13 from the field and 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
