FCS Championship Game Moving To Texas

Frisco, Texas, has been selected as the new host site for the NCAA Division I Football Championship game. Frisco emerged from a pool of several cities that submitted bids to serve as the host site for the championship game for the next three years, beginning with the 2010 season. Hosted by the Southland Conference, the championship game will be played at Pizza Hut Park on Jan. 7, 2011.

As the regular-season Ohio Valley Conference champion, Eastern Illinois women’s basketball will represent the league in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) later this month. The 64-team bracket is slated to be released the night of Monday, March 15.

EIU Blanked By Drake to End Weekend Play

For the second consecutive game, the Eastern Illinois softball squad was held to just one hit enroute to another shutout defeat, this time a 3-0 loss to Midwest rival Drake. That ends the Panthers' action at the Arkansas Razorback Invitational, where they fell to 6-7 overall and 1-4 over the weekend.

Athlete of the Week

Darren Patterson

Darren Patterson is the Student-Athlete of the Week after helping the EIU 4x400 relay team break the school-record time that dated back to 1978. At the Iowa State NCAA Last Chance Meet, he also ran a personal-record time (21.73) in the 200-meter dash, which ranks seventh in school history. The OVC Indoor Track Male Athlete of the Year won the 200-meter dash at the conference championships this season.
