CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois volleyball is set to round out the 2009 season, hosting Southeast Missouri and SIU-Edwardsville this weekend on Nov. 13 and 14, respectively. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm for both matches, with Saturday designated senior recognition night.
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Despite enjoying an early two-set to zero lead, the Eastern Illinois volleyball squad was unable to complete the match win, as visiting Murray State raced back to take the five-set heartbreaker (14-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 15-10) on Saturday afternoon at Lantz Arena.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Four players finished with double-digit kill numbers as the Eastern Illinois volleyball squad scratched past Tennessee State in a five-set thriller on Saturday afternoon down in Nashville (20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 26-24, 15-13). The win helped snap a ten-match Ohio Valley Conference losing streak, as the Panthers improved to 9-17 overall and 2-11 in league play.
Sydney Mitchell is the Student-Athlete of the Week after helping EIU extend its program-record win streak to 11 with victories at SIU Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri State. The freshman provided energy and offensive production off the bench, scoring in double figures in both games. She scored 11 points at SIUE and a career-high 12 points at SEMO. She finished the road trip 7-of-13 from the field and 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
