MONTICELLO, Ill. – Eastern Illinois baseball recently assisted in another local Habitat for Humanity project, assisting with a wood chopping and splitting project Sept. 20 in Piatt County.

The Panthers annually lend a hand with an on-going Habitat for Humanity fall project in east-central Illinois. On Sept. 20, the team traveled to a site on the outskirts of Monticello and contributed the equivalent of $1,600 in labor. The Habitat for Humanity project leaders at the site estimated the Panthers performed the equivalent of four weekends of work in one day. The team split into two groups that each worked a four-hour shift, beginning at 7 and 11:30 a.m.

“We had a great time helping the Piatt County Habitat group this year,” EIU head coach Jim Schmitz said. “It is amazing what 35 guys can accomplish for such a good organization.”
