INDIANAPOLIS -- Both the Eastern Illinois women's and men's squads finished in the upper tier at the recent two-day Butler Fall Invitational, as the Panther women took home first place honors while the Eastern men finished fifth.

The Eastern women had a strong showing, as the squad held onto their top-ranking position following day one play, as all five Panther golfers ended up in the Top 25.  Leading all Panthers in two rounds of play was senior Jaymie Voorhees who chipped in a three-over-par 147 to sit all alone in second place.

Fellow classmate Katie Imburgia, junior Veronica Bernier and freshman Emily Calhoun all shot an identical 14-over-par 158 to tie for 15th place, while junior Jenna Fox ended up tied for 25th place.

The Panthers ended up topping a local squad, Indianapolis, for top honors, with a five-stroke advantage.  Eastern also finished far ahead of fellow midwest foes Western Illinois (3rd), Indiana State (T-5th), host Butler (T-5th), IUPUI (7th), Evansville (10th), and SIU-Edwardsville (12th) to name just a few.

The first place honor is the best Panther finish by the EIU women since winning both the Loyola Spring and Chicago State Fall Invitationals in 2008-09.

For the men, junior Francisco Cherizola tied for 7th place with a one-over-par 214 in three-rounds of play, which included two rounds at one-under-par.  Sophomore Gino Parrodi tied for 16th behind a four-over 217.  Senior Matt Bird and sophomore David Lawrence also ended up with a Top 25 finish, tying for 21st and 24th place, respectively.  Rounding out the Panther contingent was freshman Tommy Ponce in 72nd place.

Team-wise, the Panther men took home a fifth place finish, just two strokes off third place as Wisconsin-Green took home the team title.

Eastern did out-play local rivals Creighton (6th), Wright State (7th), Evansville (8th), Bradley (11th), and IUPUI (13th).

The EIU women have one final event scheduled for fall play, as they will battle at the three-day Austin Peay Invite against several other OVC foes on Oct. 18-20.  The men, meanwhile, have two events on still tap for the fall, playing first at the Illinois State Fall Invite on Oct. 10-12 before joining the Panther women at the same Austin Peay event.
