CHARLESTON, Ill. -- The Eastern Illinois women's rugby squad will finish up the 2009 season with a home game versus a Midwest College All-Star squad this coming Saturday (Nov. 14), with kickoff set for 11 am at EIU's Lakeside Field. The contest will be held in conjunction with senior recognition day.
After all home Eastern Illinois athletic events were cancelled last weekend in honor of the untimely passing of Panther women's basketball assistant coach Jackie Moore, EIU rugby was able to secure one final home contest for this weekend.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to complete our season with senior day this weekend,” said long-time head coach
Frank Graziano. “We cannot thank the College All-Stars enough for being able to add this game to their schedule. Over the past eight days I was able to reach out to several Midwest teams and all were very gracious to help complete our season and in turn honor our seniors. We owe them our gratitude.”
Prior to the start of the contest, five Panthers will be honored, including seniors
Ashley Jenkins,
Chase Cain,
Stephanie Militello, and
Crystal Jones, while
Tiffany Kennedy will also be featured in the pregame ceremony as she will be graduating early.
The Panthers are currently 9-0 on the year and in the midst of a program-best 25-game winning streak, dating back to the 2007 season.
