The senior from Jacksonville, Ill., was also an Honorable Mention selection in 2007. He has compiled a 3.43 GPA while majoring in kinesiology and sports studies.
On the field this season, Philpott played in all 17 games and started six times. He scored the game-winning goal in the win against Bradley in the finale of Homecoming Weekend on campus. He also gave EIU a first-half lead in the loss at Evansville, scoring for the second time in his career against the Purple Aces.
Philpott started each of the first four games of the year and the season finale versus Drake. He and his classmates helped lead EIU to 34 victories during their careers, making them the winningest senior class this decade.
MVC Scholar-Athlete Team nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA. Also, student-athletes must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches or played in the league tournament and be sophomores or above. The Valley selects a Scholar-Athlete team for each of its sponsored sports.
Of the 15 players named to this year's team, eight earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors. Of those eight, four were recently named Academic All-Americans. The Scholar-Athlete Teams are selected on by the league's soccer sports information directors.
