CHARLESTON, Ill. – A memorial service to honor the life of Eastern Illinois assistant football coach Jeff Hoover was held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Ball Room of the Martin Luther King Jr., Student Union on the EIU campus. Portland State University, where Hoover coached previously to joining the EIU staff will also host a memorial service on Dec. 13.  Click here for details

Hoover, 41, lost his life in a tragic car accident on Saturday evening when returning from the Panthers first round FCS playoff game in Carbondale, Ill. Hoover had just completed his third season as a member of the EIU coaching staff.

In lieu of flowers, a Jeff Hoover Children’s Education Memorial Fund has been established through First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust.

PORTLAND STATE SERVICE

A local memorial service for former Portland State assistant football coach Jeff Hoover will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. at Kell's Irish Pub in downtown Portland. The memorial is being hosted by Portland State football alumni.

Hoover, who coached at Portland State from 1995-99 and during the 2006 season, died in a automobile accident late last Saturday night near Effingham, Ill. Hoover, who was an assistant football coach at Eastern Illinois, was returning home from a playoff game.

The PSU football alumni group is creating a trust fund for Hoover's children. Information on that fund is still forthcoming, but contributions can be made at the memorial. For details, call 503-381-5480.

Sean Wiggan
Men's Indoor Track
Chantelle Pressley from women's basketball and Sean Wiggan from men's indoor track have been named the EIU student-athletes of the week.

Pressley helped the women's basketball team extend its current winning streak to nine games as she scored in double figures against both Austin Peay and Jacksonville State.  Pressley had a double-double in the win over APSU with 13 points, 10 rebounds.

Wiggan had a solid showing at the Indiana Relays as he placed first in the 600m and was 8th in the 800m invitational.  Wiggan's winning time of 1:19.70 in the 600m set the school record.  His time in the 800m was 1:51.93.
