Panthers Come Up Short at Ball State

Both EIU men & women drop meets to the Cardinals

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Competing in the final meet of the fall portion of the schedule, both Eastern Illinois swimming squads dropped their respective road duals at Ball State on Friday evening, with the men losing, 169.5-112.5, while the women also came up short, 172-102.

The losses drop the Panther men and women to 2-2 and 1-3, respectively.

The Panther men picked up 15 top three finishes on the night, with three first place finishes. Although the Eastern women had no individual winners, they did tally 16 combined second and third place finishes.

Touching the wall first for the EIU men was Matt O'Hagan in the 100 Breast, Matt Scaliatine in the 200 Breast and Rich Waszak in the 200 Back event.

Scaliatine also earned third in the 200 IM, while Waszak also notched a runner-up finish in the 100-Back. Joe Ciliak had two third place touches in both the 100 and 200 Breast events, while Nathan Moritz finished second and third in the 100 and 200 Fly, respectively.

Leading all Eastern women was Laura Nilsen with three second place finishes, in both the 100 and 200 Back and 200 IM.

Hailey Foss, Lauren Zillmer, Kelli DiCanio, and Alyssa Lehman each captured two second and/or third place finishes as well to finish the individual scoring.

Following fall semester finals and the holiday break, the Panthers will compete at the Bob Mowerson Spring Meet down in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on January 5. That is followed by a two-day Tunica Invitational in Mississippi. Then Eastern will host instate foe Milliken on Sat., January 16 at 1 pm, officially opening the 2010 winter slate.
