COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Eastern Illinois softball lost a 3-2 game to James Madison on Sunday morning, as the Panthers completed play at the Gamecock Invitational, hosted by South Carolina.

With the loss, EIU falls to 7-2 on the season and finished with a 2-2 record at the tournament.

Five EIU players picked up individual hits, including senior Sarah Coppert and junior Denee' Menzione, with each maintaining their respecting hitting streaks, with nine and seven consecutive games with a hit, respectively.  Menzione earned her tenth RBI of the season in the top of the third inning, bringing home Coppert to give EIU an early 2-0 lead prior to Megan Nelson scoring off an error by James Madison.

Also hitting safely were junior Megan Nelson, sophomore Kiley Holtz and freshman Maria Sorrentino.

Coppert, Nelson and Sorrentino also registered a stolen base in the loss, to move the Panther season bag theft total to 17.

Senior thrower Kathleen Jacoby picked up her first loss of the season on the mound, allowing five hits while striking out eight and walking four.

James Madison won the game behind a three run bomb in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Panthers will regroup prior to next weekend's three-game Owl Classic in Kennesaw, Ga.  On Friday, EIU will play the host squad and Southern Mississippi at 11:30 and 5:30 pm, respectively, and then face North Carolina Central on Saturday morning at 10 am.

Men's Indoor Track
Chantelle Pressley from women's basketball and Sean Wiggan from men's indoor track have been named the EIU student-athletes of the week.

Pressley helped the women's basketball team extend its current winning streak to nine games as she scored in double figures against both Austin Peay and Jacksonville State.  Pressley had a double-double in the win over APSU with 13 points, 10 rebounds.

Wiggan had a solid showing at the Indiana Relays as he placed first in the 600m and was 8th in the 800m invitational.  Wiggan's winning time of 1:19.70 in the 600m set the school record.  His time in the 800m was 1:51.93.
