MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. -- The Eastern Illinois men's golf squad moved up another spot to finish the three-day Ohio Valley Conference Championship in seventh place, as three Panther golfers tied for 24th out of the 44 total competitors at The Shoals golf course.
Senior
Matt Davis, sophomore
Francisco Cherizola and All-OVC Newcomer honoree
Gino Parrodi each finished with a 16-over-par 232 to lead all Panthers. The threesome were three of six golfers who finished in the 24th spot.
Davis fired three-rounds of 82-78-72, while Cherizola had rounds of 75-83-74, and Parrodi went 79-73-80.

Matt Bird and freshman
Lucas Mannix, who finished 32nd and 43rd place, respectively.
As a team, the Panthers jumped from a first day last place standing to an eighth place second day finish. Following final round action, EIU jumped another spot, ending the end-of-season meet in seventh place with a combined score of 931. Eastern jumped ahead of eighth place UT Martin and last-place Tennessee Tech.
Austin Peay finished one stroke ahead of two-day leader Murray State, pulling off the upset and earning the Govs an automatic berth into the OVC Tournament. Jacksonville State's Gonzalo Berlin earned the individual medalist honors with a two-under-par 214.
The Panthers will return nearly every player from the squad next year, expect for the lone senior,
Matt Davis.
