OGDEN, Utah – Former Eastern Illinois baseball player
Tyler Kehrer is expected to make his first Minor League start tonight (June 24) for the Orem Owlz, taking the mound against the Ogden Raptors in a Pioneer League game.
Kehrer was selected 48th overall by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Compensation Round A of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. He was the highest Panther selected since 1988.
Orem won its season opener at Ogden (a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) Tuesday night, 7-3.

Nommensen and the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays affiliate) of the New York-Penn League opened their season Friday, June 19. He has been in the starting lineup in three of the first four games and hit a leadoff home run in the June 21 loss to Aberdeen.
Kreke and the Danville Braves (Atlanta Braves affiliate) of the Appalachian League won their opener Tuesday against the Pulaski Mariners, 8-3. Kreke started at third base.
Meanwhile, 2007 EIU grad Erik Huber was the leading hitter for the West Virginia Power at the midpoint of Class A season. He is batting .325 with 14 doubles, four homers and 29 RBIs, ranking fifth in the South Atlantic League in average.
