THE GAME
Eastern Illinois will look to improve to 4-0 on the season on Saturday night as they play their third straight road contest with a trip to Austin Peay. EIU has started 3-0 on the season four previous times under head coach Bob Spoo with the best start coming in 1995 at 5-0. The best start without a defeat is 11-0-1 during the 1982 season when EIU advanced to the NCAA FCS Quarterfinals behind the quarterbacking of Jeff Christensen.
EIU climbed back into the national rankings over the weekend and will be looking to rebound from last year’s senior day loss to Austin Peay in Charleston. The Panthers have won four times at Governors Stadium including a 42-7 victory in their last visit in 1996.
Austin Peay is playing their OVC opener against the Panthers after opening the season with a 1-2 non-conference record. APSU lost 38-7 at Illinois State on Saturday night.

THE SERIES
This is the 10th meeting between Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay. The Panthers hold a 6-3 series lead but Austin Peay was able to force a EIU fumble in the final minutes last season to prevail 15-13 to snap a six game EIU winning streak. The schools first played in 1958 and 1959 with APSU winning both contests. The series resumed as a non-conference contest in 1988 with EIU winning 44-0 followed by a 36-0 win the next season. As OVC members, EIU is 2-1 against the Governors winning in 1996 and 1997 before falling last year in Charleston.
