ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Both Eastern Illinois tennis squads lost on the road, as the Panthers endured the wintry weather to take on Saint Louis at the Sunset Tennis Center on Friday evening. The EIU men lost, 6-1, while the women dropped a tight 4-3 contest.

The losses drop the Eastern men and women to 2-2 and 1-2, respectively.

For the women, EIU picked up the all-important doubles point as Juliana Frey and Merritt Whitley teamed up to win their No. 2 duo affair by an 8-6 score.  Amanda Dibbs and Annie Egan, meanwhile, combined to earn a doubles win by default.

In singles, Shannon Brooks earned a straight set win at No. 4 Singles, while Kristen Laird earned a victory by default at No. 6 Singles, as well.

On the men's side, senior Jeff Rutherford picked up the lone Panther win in singles action.

The men continue weekend action, traveling to Illinois State on Sunday (Feb. 7) for a matchup at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington-Normal. Match time has been moved up from the originally scheduled 1:30 pm time to a 12:15 pm start.
