CHARLESTON Ill. - This Friday (Feb. 5) both Eastern Illinois tennis squads will take on the Saint Louis Billikens at 4 pm (CST) at the Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo. The men will also take on Illinois State on Sunday (Feb. 7) at 1 pm at the Evergreen Racquet Club.

After wins against SIUE and IPFW, the men are 2-1 and look to extend the early season win streak to three matches. The Panther men are fresh off a 5-1 win against SIUE.

Justin Haag (3-0) looks to remain perfect on the year at No. 6 singles. Jeff Rutherford (No. 1 singles) and Matyas Hilgert (No. 2 singles) will also be looking to extend their winning streaks to three matches.

Jamie Firth picked up his first win of the season against SIUE and looks to keep the momentum going in St. Louis.

The Billiken men are 2-0 on the season winning each one of their matches in 7-0 sweeps, first against Missouri-St. Louis and again against EIU's last week opponent, SIU-Edwardsville.

Meanwhile, the EIU women will be playing in just the third match of the season after defeating SIUE, 5-1 last week. The team has been led by Juliana Frey and Merritt Whitley who picked up straight set wins against SIUE. Frey and Whitley each sit at 2-0 on the season.

The Panther women will be trying for their second win of the season when they take on the Billiken women (2-2) alongside the EIU men.

The men will then play their next match against instate rival ISU on Sunday (Feb. 7). The Redbirds are 2-1 on the season, but haven't lost a point in either of their two wins and will be playing in their third match in three days.

Next week the Panther women will travel to Homewood, Ill. to play their next match on Sunday (Feb. 13) at Chicago State.  The 10 am contest will be held at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquetball club.
