EIU Win Streak Stats | National Win Streaks
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Thursday's Eastern Illinois-Morehead State women's basketball game at 5 p.m. at Lantz Arena will pit not only the top two teams in the Ohio Valley Conference against each other, but also the two hottest teams in the league.
The 5 p.m. tipoff is a half-hour earlier than normal Thursday start times this season. Eastern Illinois athletics is encouraging fans to “White Out” Lantz by wearing white to the game. EIU students attending the game will receive a complimentary white T-shirt.
The Panthers (16-8, 11-1 OVC) have won a program-record 11 consecutive games, the eighth longest active streak in the country entering the week. Included in that streak was a key 62-60 win at Morehead State on Jan. 16, EIU's fifth straight victory in the head-to-head series. That game is currently the difference in the conference standings. Morehead State (18-7, 11-2 OVC) is a half-game behind EIU and has won five in a row since losing at home to the Panthers.
Eastern is currently the only OVC that has yet to lose at home in conference play. With one more win of any kind, the Panthers can clinch a home game in the opening round of next month's OVC Tournament for the third consecutive season.
As the national leader in 3-pointers made per game (10.4), Morehead lives and dies with the 3-point shot. During EIU head coach Brady Salle's six-year tenure, the Eagles are the opponent that has posted the three highest 3-pointers attempted marks in a single-game against Eastern.
Fans are encouraged to stick around after the OVC showdown for the nightcap of the doubleheader, which will pit the EIU men's basketball team against Morehead in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU. The Morehead men represented the OVC in the NCAA Tournament last season.
