CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois women's golf squad captured 13th place at the recent Saluki Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course.
Leading all Panthers was senior
Jaymie Voorhees, who ended the two-day event in the Top 25, as she fired an 18-over-par 162, ending with a four-shot improvement of 79 from her first day 83 score.
The remaining Eastern field didn't fair quite as well, as both
Katie Imburgia and
Veronica Bernier tied for 67th, while
Kathryn Koester tied for 80th. Emily Calhoun and
Lauren Williams both finished in a tie for 83rd place out of the 93 total competitors.
Indiana State won the team title, besting the 15 squad field with a +41 team finish at the Par 72, 6,017-yard course.
In what could be described as a pre-Ohio Valley Conference meet, fellow league foes Murray State (4th), Eastern Kentucky (8th), and Austin Peay (9th), scored ahead of the Panthers. EIU did out-last both Evansville and Rend Lake CC, however, but ended up with a +116 team total of 692, 75 team strokes off the winning Sycamore squad.
Next up for the EIU squad is another instate meet, as the Panthers will head to Peoria for the three-day, two-round Bradley Invitational, being held at the Weaver Ridge Golf Course.
