CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's basketball has added another athletic forward to its 2010-11 roster as head coach Mike Miller announced the signing of Alfonzo McKinnie to a national letter of intent on Monday morning. He becomes the third player to join the Panthers during the spring signing period.

McKinnie (6-7, 195) played his final high season as a starter at Marshall High School in Chicago. He averaged 11.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as he helped coach Henry Cotton's team place third in the IHSA Class 3A State Tournament with a 28-8 record.

“Alfonzo (McKinnie) is one of those high-flying, athletic forwards that can make plays around the rim,” said Miller of the Panthers latest addition. “He has the tools to develop into a very good player for our program with his athleticism and energy to make things happen.”

At Marshall HS, McKinnie ranked third on the team in scoring and second on the team in rebounding as they featured a balanced rotation of players. He had eight double figure rebounding games with a high of 14 rebounds in a win over Detroit (Mich.) Consortium High School. His high point total was 21 against Chicago Von Steuben HS.

McKinnie played his first two years of high school basketball at Chicago's Curie High School.
