BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Based on the early cancellation of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships due to inclement weather in the region the conference awarded its Athlete of the Championships and Coach of the Year awards on Monday morning with Eastern Illinois sweeping the table.

Tom Akers was named the OVC Coach of the Year for guiding the Panthers to their 11th men's outdoor track championship and third women's outdoor track championship. Both team were repeat winners after also winning the championships in 2009. In addition EIU also won the OVC Indoor Track Championships this year giving both the men and women a run of four straight OVC titles each.

Zye Boey was named the Male Athlete of the Championships winning the award for the second straight year. Boey won the 100m dash with a time of 10.49 while he won the 200m dash with a mark of 21.60. Boey also ran one leg of the 4x100 relay.

Kandace Arnold was named the Female Athlete of the Championships giving her a sweep of both the indoor and outdoor award titles. Arnold won the shot put and discus while placing sixth in the hammer during Saturday's rain soaked event. Arnold won the shot put with a distance of 51'7.75" which set the OVC Championships record. In the discus she threw 165'7" which increased her previous EIU school mark.

EIU will send a small number of athletes to this Friday's Billy Hayes Invite hosted by Indiana as the Panthers continue to have athletes attempt to qualify for the NCAA Regionals in late May.
