Kehrer pitched three innings of hitless relief to earn his second victory of the season in Cedar Rapids' 5-2 victory against West Michigan (Detroit Tigers affiliate). He issued only one walk and faced only nine batters in his three innings.
Nommensen went 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored in Bowling Green's 17-5 blowout of Wisconsin (Milwaukee Brewers affiliate) in game one of a doubleheader. It was his third straight multi-hit effort, going 7-for-14 with nine RBIs over that stretch. Sunday, he homered twice in a victory against Kane County (Oakland A's affiliate).
Kehrer and Nommensen were both selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Kehrer is currently playing in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim farm system while Nommensen is part of the Tampa Bay Rays system.
Kehrer (2-2, 3 saves) has limited opposing hitters to a .223 batting average against, giving up only 29 hits in 36 innings pitched. But he has battled control problems this season, issuing 31 walks. However, nine of those free passes came in a June 3 relief outing.
Nommensen is batting .351 (13-for-37) over his last 10 games to raise his average for the season to .285. He posted five multi-hit games over the last two weeks.
Cedar Rapids leads the Midwest League's Western Division with a 38-21 record. Bowling Green is in sixth place in the Eastern Division with a 24-34 mark. The two teams are scheduled to square off July 24-26 in Bowling Green.
