2009-10 Academic All-Summit League (PDF)

ELMHURST, Ill. -- With the 2009-10 academic year in the books, the Summit League has announced its Academic All-League Teams for the winter/spring seasons as 24 total student-athletes from Eastern Illinois were included on the prestigious list as the Panthers compete as an associate member in the Summit League.

Of the 24 selections, six were recognized as Distinguished Scholars -- Joe Ciliak and Christian Rhoten for the men, and Rachel Howe, Sarah Jones, Kellie Logterman, and Lauren Zillmer on the women's side.

“This is a real testament to how hard our student-athletes work both in the pool and classroom,” said EIU head coach Matt Bos. “This is a great honor for these athletes and really nice way to end a successful season. I look forward to the continuing success of both our programs and undoubtedly have high expectations leading into next season.”

In order to be selected to the Academic All-Summit League Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or better grade-point average (GPA) in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of eligibility. In order to be named a Distinguished Scholar, meanwhile, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.60 GPA.

The Summit League is comprised of seven member institutions in the sport of men's and women's swimming -- Centenary, IUPUI, Oakland, South Dakota State, and Western Illinois. In addition, both EIU and South Dakota compete as associate members in the water sport.

This past February the Panther men captured third place at the league championship, coming to within six points of earning runner-up honors. The EIU women finished the three day meet in fifth place.

Over the course of the 2009-10 season the Panther squads set 15 new school marks, with the men notching six and the women nine. Overall, the units added 54 performances to the EIU Top 10 list as well.
