When Kandace Arnold enrolled at Eastern Illinois four years ago coaches on the Panthers track and field team knew that the throws competitor from Evergreen Park had potential. During her senior season at EIU, Arnold not only fulfilled that potential but completed one of the best individual careers in EIU history.
Arnold finished her EIU track and field career holding the school record in the indoor shot put, indoor weight throw, outdoor shot put, discus and hammer. Not only did Arnold set the school record in many cases she smashed them with the closest mark two feet shy of Arnold's new record.
For her accomplishments Arnold was named the OVC Female Athlete of the Indoor Championships as she helped EIU win its third indoor title in four seasons. She twice cleared the 50' mark in the indoor shot put landing on the NCAA Championships provisional qualifier list.
During the outdoor season Arnold continued to improve as she was named the OVC Athlete of the Year for the regular season and Female Athlete of the Championships helping the Panthers win the outdoor title for the third time in her career. She was a two-event qualifier for the NCAA Regional in the shot put and discus.
At the NCAA Regional meet Arnold finished 8th in the shot put becoming the first EIU female athlete to earn a trip to the NCAA National Championships where she placed 16th. She was named the OVC Female Athlete of the Year in late May and nominated as the OVC's candidate for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
