Relive some of the greatest moments

October 1, 1938 - Eastern Illinois football welcomes the first African-American athlete as Charles Hall from nearby Brazil, Indiana plays in the Panthers season opener against Northern Illinois for head coach Harold Ave.

EIU would post a 5-3 record that first season with Hall on the roster.  Hall would compete on the 1939 team which finished at 4-3-1 while also earning a varsity letter in track.  He would withdraw from the University in the spring of 1941 to enlist in the Army.  It was as an Army pilot that he had a distinguished career including action in World War II.
