EVANSVILLE, Ill. -- The College Swimming Coaches Association of America tabbed Eastern Illinois men's swimming with a Scholar All-American Team honors following an outstanding 2010 spring semester. The men's squad join the Panther women's team who were recently recognized for the same award last week.
During both the fall and spring seasons, the CSCAA honors intercollegiate squads who have earned a minimum 3.0 team GPA and based on a 3.16 GPA average, the Panthers join 125 other men's and women's squad in receiving this prestigious academic honor. Other EIU rivals on the list include fellow Summit League foes Oakland University and IUPUI.
“Like for the women, I am happy that our guys have been recognized for their academic achievements,” said head coach Matt Bos, who enters his third season as skipper of both Panther swimming programs.
“Both our teams work extremely hard both in the pool and classroom and the honor is well deserved. We expect a lot from our student-athletes and it there is no better feeling as a coach than to see a group come together and achieve the goals that they have set out for themselves. We will continue to set the bar high and strive for excellence in the classroom this upcoming school year.”
The EIU men return all but one swimmer from last season's unit that finished third at the end-of-season Summit League meet, just six points shy of placing second.
Returners include incoming sophomore Ken Tiltges, who was tabbed the Male 'Newcomer of the Championship." In addition, both the men's and women's squads completely shattered a number of school records over the course of the three-day conference meet.
