BRENTWOOD, Tenn. Kaylin Lorbert helped keep Eastern Illinois women's soccer in both of its 1-0 losses last weekend and Tuesday she shared the Ohio Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week award.

It turned out Lorbert and the EIU defense had no margin for error, as the Panthers were shutout in their losses at Valparaiso and versus Eastern Michigan. Lorbert finished the weekend with seven saves, making a season-high five against EMU. She shared the weekly honor with Jacksonville State's Ali Koenig, who made 18 saves but also surrendered four goals in 135 minutes at a four-team tournament hosted by New Mexico State.

Lorbert has started each of the first four games in goal this season, surrendering only two goals in 338 minutes of action. She has surrendered multiple goals in only one of her last eight starts dating back to 2009.

Through the first two weekends of the regular season, around the OVC only Austin Peay, which has yet to surrender a goal en route to a 4-0 start, has given up fewer goals that EIU.

Lorbert was recognized by the league office for the third time in her career and for the first time since 2008. She joins defender Sam Balek, who was named the Defensive Player of the Week after the season-opening weekend, as Panthers to be honored so far this young season.

Eastern hits the road this weekend for road games at Green Bay (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Indiana State (Sunday at noon).

Recapping Last Week: After opening the season with two shutout wins, Eastern Illinois was on the opposite side of similar results, losing a pair of 1-0 games. Sunday, the Panthers were shutout at home for the first time since September 2008, ending their streak of 14 consecutive games with a goal at Lakeside Field. Eastern Michigan also snapped EIU's nine-game (6-0-3) unbeaten streak at home… Neither team had a corner kick opportunity in the EIU-EMU game until the 71st minute. But EMU capitalized on that first corner chance, scoring the game's lone goal. Eastern had not lost a 1-0 game at home since Sept. 5, 2008… Defenders Sam Balek and Hillary Blake went the distance in both games. Balek has yet to leave the field during game action this season. They helped limited the opposition to a combined nine shots on goal and five corner kicks in the two games.
