Early Goal Stands Up Against Women's Soccer

Panthers fall 1-0 to Evansville in exhibition action

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Evansville scored in the opening minute of Saturday's exhibition contest and was able to hold off several good scoring chances by Eastern Illinois as the Purple Aces won 1-0 over the host Panthers at Lakeside Field. EIU will open the regular season on Friday at Northern Iowa.

Stephanie Thompson knocked home the lone goal of the match just 34 seconds into the contest scoring on a shot from the top right hand corner of the goal box. The goal was assisted by Olivia Robinson.

The Panthers registered more shots then the Purple Aces finishing with a 15-13 advantage, including six shots on goal by EIU. Two of those six shots on goal came in the final 45 seconds as EIU sent two balls into the goal box that were saved by Chaviel Harrison. Harrison made six saves on the day.

Kristin Germann had three shots on goal including one in the final flurry. Ashley Streid offered up another goal opportunity in the final six minutes as her shot just missed the net on the outside.

In goal EIU had keepers Jessica Taldone and Brittany O'Dell each play one half. Taldone made one save while O'Dell recorded two.
