DAVIDSON, N.C. - Eastern Illinois junior punter
Scott Weatherford has been named to the College Football Performance Awards preseason punters watch list. EIU will open the season on Thursday, August 30 against Southern Illinois. Kick off is at 6:30 p.m. at O'Brien Field.
Weatherford took over the punter duties last fall averaging 37.6 yards per punt. He pinned a quarter of his punt attempts (12-of-48) inside the 20-yard line. Weatherford had three punts of more than 50-yards with a long of 62 against Tennessee State. He also had a 60 yard punt against Tennessee Tech.
Weatherford becomes the fourth Panthers player to be named to a preseason watch by the CFPA this year.
Chris Wright was placed on the preseason wide receivers list while
Von Wise and
Sam Hendricks both were named to the preseason tight ends watch list.
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
