CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois head women's basketball coach Debbie Black has opened her first recruiting class with the signing of a former Illinois All-State player. Morgan Martin signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA's November signing period for basketball.

Martin is set to begin her senior season at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her junior season was cut short at Kennedy HS due to injury but in her short time Martin averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds.

A 6'1" post-player, Martin played her first two seasons at Quincy Notre Dame HS in Illinois. She helped lead the program to back-to-back IHSA Class 2A state championships earning All-State honors as a sophomore. Martin averaged 9.6 points and 4.7 rebounds on a team that finished 33-1 and was ranked No. 36 in the ESPN Fab 50 poll. During her two year career at Quincy she helped the team post a 64-2 record.

"We are excited to have Morgan joining our program. She is a very similar player to Sabi (Sabina Oroszova) with the ability to play inside and outside as a forward," said Black on her first signee. "She will be a valuable asset to our program"

EIU returns to action on Friday night with a 7 p.m. game at Saint Louis.
