CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Both the Eastern Illinois men's and women's tennis squads continue early spring action this weekend, as the Panther men head to St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday (Feb. 9), while the EIU women travel to Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday (Feb. 10).
First serves are set for 3:30 p.m. and noon, respectively, as both Panther units look to improve on identical 1-1 season marks. The EIU men are coming off a crucial 4-3 road win over Saint Louis, while the Panther women will look to get back into the win column following 5-2 loss at Illinois State last week.
Junior
Janelle Prisner leads all Panthers heading into the weekend as the St. John's, Mich. native owns a perfect 2-0 singles mark at the top of the women's lineup. She also sports a 1-1 in duo record when teamed with senior
Merritt Whitley at No. 1 doubles.
Junior
Jennifer Kim and sophomore
Sephora Boulbahaiem own 1-1 singles marks, with Boulbahaiem also 1-1 at No. 2 doubles when joined by newcomer
Hannah Kimbrough.
For the men, a trio of players -- senior
Michael Sperry, junior
Kevin Bauman and freshman
Ryan Henderson -- each own 1-1 marks in singles action at their respective No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 spots in the Panther lineup.
While in doubles, all three Panther duos sit at 1-1 on the early year.
For the competition, the USF Fighting Saints and UMSL Tritons currently sit at 1-1 and 0-0 on the season, respectively, prior to this weekend's action.
Next up for the Panther women will be a road contest at Southern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 16, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the EIU men will next entertain Dayton at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, with the match to be played indoors at the relatively close Danville Tennis Center.
