CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's basketball head coach Jay Spoonhour has announced the addition of a fourth player during the spring signing period as guard Donald Moore has signed a national letter of intent.

Moore (6-foot-1) played his freshman season at Blinn Junior College in Texas.  He averaged 10.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game for a team that advanced to the first round of the regional tournament.  Moore shot 78 percent from the free throw line.  The Chicago product will have three years of eligibility remaining at EIU.

Moore played his prep basketball at Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights for head coach Jasper Williams.  He was a three-time All-Area selection earning honorable mention All-State as a junior and IBCA 3A/4A first team All-State as a senior.  Moore averaged 17 points, 8 assists and 3 steals per game his season year to earn Southtown Player of the Year honors.  As a senior he was the MVP of the McDipper Classic and rated a top twenty player in the state of Illinois.

“Donald gives us added quickness and scoring ability at the guard position,” said Spoonhour.  “He's about as fast as anyone going from end to end.  His ability to create shots is something that will be a big benefit to us.”

Moore becomes the fourth player to sign with the Panthers in the spring signing period joining center Mat Piotrowski (Southwestern Illinois College), guard Anthony Johnson (Oblong HS – Illinois) and guard Zach Dickerson (Argyle HS – Texas).  Spoonhour signed wing Jake Verhagen (Appleton West HS – Wis.) in the November early signing period.   The Panthers added forward Chris Olivier as a mid-year transfer from Northern Iowa.

EIU advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament this past season in Spoonhour's first season as head coach.  It was EIU's first OVC Tournament appearance since 2010.
