CHARLESTON, Ill. – Senior
Jake Plant scored two goals on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field, leading the Panther men's soccer team to a 4-2 win over St. Xavier University in an exhibition match.
After Lorenzo Savino gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 20
th minute, Plant knotted the match at one only six minutes later.
Davis Wegmann scored on a pass from
Colin Rook in the 37
th minute to give the Panthers a 2-1 advantage before
Will Teichman found Plant for his second goal of the day in the 44
th minute, making the score 3-1.
The Cougars got within one (3-2) in the 50
th minute on a Marco Gutierrez goal before
Will Butler found the back of the net from 20 yards out on the left to put the Panthers ahead, 4-2, in the 60
th minute.
EIU took nine more shots (13-4) than St. Xavier and had four more shots on goal (7-3). Both teams had two corner kicks and committed seven fouls.
Plant led the Panthers with three shots (two on goal) while Butler added two shots on goal.
The two teams played two, 35-minute halves on the afternoon.
The Panthers return to action at Butler on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. EST.
