CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team concluded its preseason schedule on Saturday evening, dropping a 2-1 contest to Dayton at Lakeside Field.
 
The Flyers got on the scoreboard first, finding the back of the net on a Ryan Peterson goal in the 38th minute. Peterson headed the ball into the goal from three yards out on the left on a cross by Brian Richards.
 
Jake Plant tied the match at one in the 62nd minute, scoring from four yards out on the right. Plant's shot was off a rebound from the Dayton goalkeeper who made a save on a shot by Tayron Martin.
 
The Flyers responded five minutes later to take a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish, scoring on a goal by Eddie Jones who found the back of the net on a cross from the right by John Howe.
 
Dayton took four more shots (18-14) than EIU in the match. Both teams committed 12 fouls while the Panthers had one more corner kick (3-2).
 
Martin led the Panthers with five shots while Plant, Will Butler and Will Teichman each had two shots. Maik Schoonderwoerd paced the Dayton attack with four shots (three on goal).
 
Austin Miller made two saves in 79 minutes of action in goal for EIU while teammate Garrett Creasor made one save in the final 11 minutes of play. Chris Froschauer played all 90 minutes in goal for Dayton, making four saves on the night.
 
The Panthers open the 2013 regular season at UIC on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
