NEW ORLEANS – Eastern Illinois track and field has four athletes and both its men's and women's programs recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the organization recently honored both teams and individuals for their academic success.
On the men's team
Riley McInerney and Christian Illunga-Matthiesen were honored while
Janie Howse and
Haleigh Knapp received academic honors for the women's team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative 3.25 grade point average and have met at least one of the following standards:
-- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP listing by TFRRS.org
-- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
In addition to the four individuals, both the EIU men's and women's team were named All-Academic Teams for the 2015-16 year. The women's team posted a 3.45 team GPA while the men finished with a 3.21 team GPA
