CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois head men's basketball coach
Jay Spoonhour added a third player to the Panthers 2017-18 class on Friday with the signing of Indiana High School product Mack Smith. Smith joins junior college players Michael Chavers and JaJuan Starks who both signed with EIU to open the April signing period.
Smith (6-2, 185) from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis had an outstanding senior year being named as an Indiana All-Star. This honor goes to the top 15 players in the state regardless of class. Smith averaged 19.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Smith connected on 56 percent of his field goal attempts and shot 48 percent from 3 point range during his senior season. He has been selected to represent Indiana in the prestigious Indiana-Kentucky High School All-Star game. Smith will also participate in the Hoosier All-Star game in the historical Hoosier gym in Knightstown, Indiana. Smith led Warren Central to their first ever Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference title and it's first ever No.1 state ranking. They finished the season with a record of 22-3.
Spoonhour said, "Mack played in one of the best high school basketball conferences in the nation and led his team to the conference title. His experience against that competition should serve him well in our program. Mack is a good shooter and also possesses the ability to drive ball and make plays in the lane."
