RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky held the Panthers to just four first quarter points to set the tone for Saturday's match-up. EIU fell to the Colonels 67-51.
The Panthers dropped to 1-14 overall, 0-4 in the OVC. EKU improved to 5-8 overall, 2-2 in the OVC.
EIU had a slow start offensively only shooting six percent from the field in the first quarter.
Taylor Steele scored three of the Panthers four first quarter points. She finished the game with 13 points and three rebounds.
Halle Stull scored 16 of EIU's 18 bench points providing an offensive spark for the Panthers. She was EIU's leading scorer connecting on 4-of-5 from the beyond the arc. She hit back-to-back three pointers in the second quarter to help erase EKU's 28 point lead.
EKU finished with a 51-31 rebound margin with 12 offensive boards.
Jalisha Smith recorded a team-high seven rebounds while
Grace McRae grabbed five. A'Queen Hayes tallied with 16 rebounds to lead EKU. Hayes also had 20 points to complete the double-double finish.
Bria Bass led all-scorers with 25 points finishing 5-of-8 from the arc. The Colonels shot 44 percent from the field and connected on 58 percent from beyond the arc.
The Panthers will return home on Thursday Jan. 11 for an 8:30 pm match-up vs. Tennessee State.
