Renovated in the summer of 2003, Williams Field was updated to provide a fan-friendly atmosphere and quality playing facility for EIU Panther student-athletes. Williams Field features blue chairback seating, a concession area below the press box and enclosed brick dugouts surrounded by red brick pillars that are connected by black aluminum fencing. The softball complex also includes lights, a modern scoreboard and hitting cages for home and visiting teams. The softball complex was named for longtime EIU benefactor and former Vice President for Student Affairs, Glenn Williams and his wife Joan. The field was officially rededicated against Jacksonville State University on the weekend of April 24-25, 2004. The Panthers opened that 2004 season winning their first six home games at their new-look home in 2004, including a three-game series sweep of Morehead State.
